Implicit Bias is natural, found in everyone, and unconscious. They are brain shortcuts that develop over our lifetime to help us navigate our environment in a way that allows us to survive. When left untamed, it can trigger behaviors that result in unintended discriminatory behaviors and practices. When someone says they "didn't mean" the results and "can't help" themselves, they are not far from the truth. But these responses are no longer acceptable. What can you do?
This CLE course explores implicit bias with the following objectives:
Explore the impact of unconscious/implicit bias from benign to inappropriate biases, stereotypes that breed biases, and how implicit biases create barriers to inclusion.
Explore the attorney’s duty to recognize and manage implicit bias
Leave you with eight tactics to combat unconscious/implicit bias.
California MCLE Certificates will be provided by Francine Tone, an approved provider #18410, who certifies this activity has been approved for 1 Hour of continuing education by the State Bar of California in the subfield: Elimination of Bias.
